Overview

Currently, the materials science is one of the most important scientific domains, which results are used in many areas of our life - aerospace industry, nuclear industry, IT, medicine, and many others. The program is aimed to train highly qualified specialists, able to participate in the development of modern high technologies, new materials, and implement them into the production process. Along with this, the program pays attention to advanced knowledge in the fields of new materials and the development of new nanomaterials and coatings. Tomsk Polytechnic University actively cooperates with international research institutions, laboratories, and universities. To give the students real skills, the program uses advanced laboratory facilities of Institute of Strength Physics and Materials Science of Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences and TPU Nano-center, where they can work and conduct their research.

Learning output

The program will equip the students with the necessary knowledge and skills, allowing them to:

  • apply modern idea in materials science, interaction of materials with the environment, use scientific methods for collecting, studying and processing information
  • develop and use technical documentation and apply basic regulations on intellectual property issues
  • apply principles and methods of comprehensive studies, testing, and diagnostics, processing, and modification of materials
  • develop operational work plans of major production units, risk assessment and identification of measures, ensuring the environmental and technical safety of materials, equipment, and technologies under development
  • comprehensively assess and predict scientific trends and use it for the following breakthrough research
  • apply in practice their knowledge in legal, social, managerial and environmental aspects of complex engineering activities, knowledge and methods of work organization, ensuring efficient, environmentally and technically safe production
  • apply in practice their knowledge of high-tech innovation management, including for small businesses
