Overview

Nowadays, the nuclear power plants (NPP) are widely used all around the world and their number is gradually increasing. In these conditions, there is a sharp need for specialists and engineers, able to design and operate nuclear power plants.  The program trains specialists for nuclear power plants and design-and-research organizations, engaged in the development and design of systems, equipment, and nuclear power plants in general. In the national educational programs ranking, the following program traditionally occupies one of the Top positions. In addition, the University possesses one of the few nuclear research reactors in Russia, which is considerebly important.

Learning output

After graduation, the students will be able to:

  • implement resource-efficient technologies in the processes of generation of heat and electrical energy at nuclear power plants
  • apply methods of system analysis to study processes in NPP equipment
  • apply basic management skills of NPP (the skills will be practiced on the basis of the University nuclear research reactor)
  • conduct research of neutron-physical and thermo-hydraulic characteristics of the core of the TPU research reactor
  • design equipment for TPP and NPP
  • apply environmental technologies at nuclear power plants
  • independently apply research activities
  • professionally communicate in the English language

It is worth mentioning, that Tomsk Polytechnic University possesses one and only university nuclear research reactor in Russia.

The graduates will be qualified specialists, able to work at organizations, related to distribution, transformation, use of atomic energy, energy flow control, development and manufacture of elements, devices, and systems for correct operation and management of the mentioned processes. Along with this, they will be able to work as specialists, experts, engineers and researchers at research institutions, energy and engineering companies, and nuclear power plants.
