Overview

Currently, oil and gas are the most crucial resources of the modern world economy. Their regular supplies ensure development in almost all industries. Thus, there is a great need for efficient technologies and solutions of petroleum field development and oil and gas transportation. Even more important are professional engineers and researchers able to provide engineering and analytical support.   The program is precisely balanced, providing solid engineering and analytical skills.

The following program was developed in the framework of a specialization – Petroleum Industry. Along with the Master program - Reliability of Gas Pipelines and Storage Facilities, it includes:

  1. Construction of Deep Oil and Gas Fields
  2. Development and Operation of Oil and Gas Fields
  3. Machines and Equipment in Petroleum Industry
  4. Petroleum Engineering (the second academic year is carried out in the English language under the network collaboration with Heriot-Watt University)
  5. Reliability of Gas Pipelines and Storage Facilities

The student will be able to use the university facility, including laboratories and research centers, advanced computer classes with appropriate software  (Petrel, ECLIPSE, PIPESIM, Drilling Office, PanSystem, WellFlo, Ecrin, and others), 3D visualization room, databases with information about geophysical studies of wells,  reservoir properties, and others.

Learning output

The program was designed to equip students with necessary skills, allowing them to:

  • apply advanced engineering solutions to analyze development and process parameters for petroleum field assessment
  • apply a range of advanced analytical methods to assess reservoirs condition and their properties
  • apply various approaches for controlling petroleum field development
  • prepare project documentation, depending on stage of development, field exploration, and state of reserves
  • prepare project documentation, using knowledge of appropriate regulations
  • prepare, submit and present application at appropriate state comities and organizations
  • apply SEC and SPE standards
  • interpret results of hydrodynamic research to determine filtration characteristics of reservoirs, reservoir permeability, skin factor, well damage, average reservoir pressure, reservoir heterogeneity, and reservoir boundaries
  • integrate various data, related to wells and geological conditions, seismic data, data analysis of geophysical logging, rock properties and fluids to develop and maintain petroleum fields
