Tomsk Polytechnic University has awarded degree diplomas to 149 international graduates from 10 countries. The majority of the graduates completed engineering programs. The graduation ceremony was held at the International Cultural Center of Tomsk Polytechnic University on June 27. The first officers of the city, the region and the University congratulated the class of 2016.

The most number of foreign graduates were from the People’s Republic of China (91 graduates) and from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (46 graduates). Graduates from Mongolia, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, India, Indonesia, Bulgaria and Thailand have received diplomas as well.

The Tomsk Polytechnic has conferred diplomas with honors to 61 graduates, 22 polytechnicers have been awarded certificates of honor, two more – thank you letters from TPU rector. Four graduates from Russia and Vietnam have been awarded bronze medals “For services to TPU”.

Petinka Petkova was the first student from Bulgaria graduated from the Tomsk Polytechnic. She received a M.A. diploma with honors at the Institute of Humanities, Social Sciences and Technologies and a rector’s certificate “For self-governing”.

“I have learnt from my relative who had been here earlier about the city of Tomsk and so remarkable university – Tomsk Polytechnic University. In general, Russia is loved in Bulgaria. Siberia for European residents is something from tales and exotics at all. I got interested in that Siberian city, liked programs offered by TPU. I studied economics and management in oil and gas industry at TPU. Liked studying, indeed, it was difficult sometimes.

The first year I studied the Russian language. I appreciated the quality of teaching. Over the years of study I met a lot of good people, made many good friends. At the moment there is no desire to leave Tomsk, there is a desire to stay here,”

- said Petinka Petkova.

The most number of the international graduates completed engineering programs. Those were physics, mechanical engineering, oil and gas studies, optical engineering, electronics and nanoelectronics, instrument making, materials science and materials technology, geology, customs studies, computer science, linguistics, management, tourism, overseas regional studies.

Najisu, the graduate from China, has got a diploma with honors in oil and gas studies.

“I studied a master’s degree course “The exploration and operation of oil and gas fields”. Further I plan to work for oil companies conducted cooperation between Russia and China.

I would like to get job at China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC). But at first, I’m going to pursue my post-graduate study at Tomsk Polytechnic University,”

- said the graduate.

At the solemn ceremony friends and parents, professors and TPU administration congratulated the graduates.

“Today most of you will go away to different countries, different cities. We would like you to be ambassadors of our university, valiantly and proudly wear the name of Tomsk polytechnicer. From myself I wish you to continue your education on post-graduate studies in TPU, earn doctoral degrees of full value. Success to you!” – said Dmitry Son, TPU Deputy Vice-rector for General Issues, to the guys.

Mayor of Tomsk Ivan Klein and Chairman of the Committee for Science and Innovative Policy of the Tomsk region Administration Alexey Pushkarenko took part in the ceremony too.

“You have chosen a right university. To date TPU diplomas are recognized across the world. The acknowledgement of it is graduates who work almost at all continents of the globe. I wish you to be always professionals of your business, patriots of Tomsk Polytechnic University and true Tomsk citizens,”- addressed Mayor Ivan Klein the graduates. – I am sincerely glad that Tomsk is a center of appeal for youth from other countries. Hope, over those years you spent in our city you felt the spirit of Tomsk, its hospitality and goodwill. Perhaps, someone of you decide to stay here to live. I myself came to study in Tomsk from Kazakhstan. Graduated from Tomsk Polytechnic University in 1984. I have taken a decision to stay in Tomsk and lived here for 40 years.”
