The documentaries and feature films will be shown in the dormitories of Tomsk Polytechnic University in honor of the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Stalingrad on February 2.
The Battle of Stalingrad is one of the major confrontations of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945). It started on 17 July 1942 and finished on 2 February 1943. The battle is regarded as one of the bloodiest battles in the history of warfare.
The Battle of Stalingrad made a decisive contribution to the achievement of a radical change in the Great Patriotic War. The Soviet armed forces seized a strategic initiative and held it for the rest of the war. The defeat of the fascist coalition at Stalingrad undermined the credibility of Germany with its allies and contributed to the activation of the resistance movements in Europe. Japan and Turkey were forced to abandon plans for active actions against the USSR.
To commemorate such a significant event there will be movie screening for students of Tomsk Polytechnic University. Throughout the day on Friday, February 2, screening of selected documentaries about Stalingrad will take place in all TPU dormitories.
In addition, on Friday evening, students are invited to watch the feature film Stalingrad (2013, directed by Fedor Bondarchuk).
The documentaries will be demonstrated in the halls of the dormitories, the feature film Stalingrad – in the student lounge of the dormitories.
