The award ceremony for the RF Government Prizes of 2017 in the field of science and technology and in the field of science and technology for young scientists took place in the House of Government of the Russian Federation in Moscow on 18 January. The team of young scientists from TPU Simulation of Electric Power Grids Research Laboratory also received the Prize. TPU scientists were awarded for the development and introduction of a real-time multiprocessor simulation complex of electric power grids with actively adaptive grids. The complex has no counterparts in Russia and abroad.

The Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev congratulated the laureates of the Prize. The Minister of the Education and Science of the Russian Federation Olga Vasilieva and Deputy Minister Grigory Trubnikov held the ceremony. Totally, in 2017 over a hundred of scientific works were submitted to the competition.  28 projects were honored with the Prize, including seven projects presented by young scientists.

 

Tomsk Polytechnic University was presented by young scientists Mikhail Andreev, Nikolai Ruban, Alexei Suvorov, and Ruslan Ufa. The project was led by former TPU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Yuri Borovikov (now – Acting Rector of Novgorod State University).

 

The developed simulation complex allows reducing the number of large accidents by 35-40%, decreasing the energy losses by at least 4-5% due to the optimization of operation modes for EPG with AAG.

 

It simulates any process in power grids: it may be the grid of one enterprise or the grid of the whole region, which forecasts real consequences caused by a malfunction in the operation of power equipment.

 

 

The Tomsk simulation complex has been successfully tested on power grids of individual enterprises, as well as cities and regions. Recently, using the development, the scientists assessed the reliability and sustainability of the power supply system of Sakhalin Oblast, identified bottlenecks of the grid and its potential backup capacity.
