According to the TPU Scientific Career Center, in 2017, students, PhD students and young scientists of the University won over 600 national and regional competitions, additional scholarships, prizes, and grants. Among them, there is the Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation for young scientists in the field of science and engineering, medals of the Russian Academy of Sciences, scholarships of RF President and RF Government and many others.
The group of young scientists from the TPU Laboratory for Modeling of Electric Power Grid System received one of the six prestigious Prizes of the Russian Federation Government for young scientists in the field of science and engineering. The research team was awarded for the development and the introduction of a real-time multiprocessor simulation complex of electric power grids with actively adaptive grids. The developed simulation complex allows reducing the number of large accidents by 30%, minimizing energy losses by 4-5% due to optimization of operation modes for EPG with AAG. Today this complex has no analogues in Russia and abroad.
Last year, TPU students and young scientists became the winners of five medals of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Tomsk Polytechnic University ranks first on the number of medals among Russian universities along with Tomsk State University. TPU scientists received medals for basic research in the field of geology, geochemistry and mining sciences, physical and chemical biology, nuclear physics, and physical and engineering problems.
Tomsk Polytechnic University also was the first among Russian universities on the number of RF President scholarships to study abroad. These scholarships were awarded to 15 TPU representatives, among which there were two master and 13 PhD students. They got the opportunity to study abroad during a term or the whole academic year. The scholarship covers transport expenses, accommodation, medical insurance, visa support and tuition fees.
Besides, TPU students and PhDs received 19 scholarships of RF President and 38 scholarships of RF Government which are awarded for high achievements in academic and scientific activities. In this respect, TPU is also the first among all Russian universities on the number of scholarships for students and PhDs.
The director of the Scientific Career Center Evgeniya Frantsina notes: ‘Last year, there were many interesting events for students, PhDs, and young scientists. For example, for the first time, Tomsk Polytechnic University hosted the final of the Young Vision Award, which is the international student contest for research projects in the petroleum industry. TPU students Eldar Urazov and Anzhelika Posvyashchennaya won the Young Vision Award. The two winners were awarded a one-week company internship in one of the branches of Wintershall.’
