29.12.2017 University life

Rector of Tomsk Polytechnic University Petr Chubik congratulates all TPU members, fellows, students and alumni, on the coming New Year.

'Dear friends! Dear staff members, students and alumni of TPU!

We always welcome the New Year as a fortunate opportunity to ‘reset’ our life and to make a choice in favor of better and more delighted future. Therefore, it is so important to arm ourselves with the experience of the past dynamic, rich, and special 2017…

This was the fifth year of TPU Competitiveness Enhancement Program according to which our University will enter the top 100 of the world’s best universities by 2020. Following the targets set by the Project 5-100, we were able to improve the quality of our scientific and educational activity that is indicated by our positions in the world university rankings thus demonstrating high dynamics of TPU promotion in prestigious QS and THE World University Rankings. It is particularly important that in 2017 TPU, for the first time in its history, entered the ARWU Global Ranking of Academic Subjects in the field Mechanical Engineering, in the QS and THE Rankings by Subject in the field Engineering & Technology, Physical Sciences. Being one footstep behind the top 100 world’s best scientific and educational centers in the THE World University Rankings by Subject, at the end of the year TPU marked itself in the top 10 Russia’s universities in the Moscow International The Three University Missions Ranking, taking the 136th place globally. Each height in the ratings we take can be regarded as a reference point on the map identified as the Russia’s leading engineering university in the midst of global scientific and educational community…

Among outstanding achievements in 2017 are the following: enhanced positions in the international market of educational services, one of six Russian Federation Government Prizes in the field of science and technology for young scientists, new unique laboratories and centers, including joint ones, participation in large-scale space experiments, breakthrough innovations in engineering, physics and education in cooperation with CERN… TPU members have an extensive expertise in qualitative transformations and thus achieved outcomes. The outgoing year of targeted shift towards all areas of activity clearly demonstrates this.

We definitely understand that today in the global international environment there is no relaxed comfort zone, which means that a new development strategy is only possible through everyday changes for the better.

The year 2017 marked the beginning of transformations at our University towards the center for engineering and scientific elite training for the benefit of Russia-Asia-Eurasia, and the generation of technology innovations corresponding to the world’s best practices. The shift in the paradigm of engineering education and the related restructuring of the University are major changes that we should perceive as another challenging task. High responsibility, self-confidence, sound ambitions and concentration of efforts on certain tasks will help us to fulfill the program obligations. I am certain that the coming 2018 will carry on the tradition of achievements and each of us will make a 100% contribution into the joint success.

Dear TPU members! I would like to express my sincere congratulations and wish new aspirations, desires and opportunities in these most magic and beloved holidays!

Dream since dreams are also a kind of planning. Only those who know how to appreciate time and dedicate everything to a big goal, have all chances for their plans to come true.

May every day of the new 2018 be the day of dreams coming true for you and your beloved, and all 365 days be a year of fulfilled hopes! Health and prosperity to you! Peace, light, warming, joy, harmony and love to your families!

Happy New Year!
