The Student Media Center of Tomsk Polytechnic University won the Best Media Center Award – a contest among Russian universities – in the nomination for Internet Recognition. Voting was open at the official web-site of the contest and in the Russian-speaking social network Vkontakte.
The contest was organized by the International Association of Student Television under the support of the Ministry of Science and Education of the Russian Federation and information support of IIA Russia Today and the social network Vkontakte. 90 universities from Kaliningrad to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk took part in the contest.
‘Winning the contest for the best media center among Russian universities following the results of audience voting is very important for our technical university,’ says Vice-Rector for External Affairs Liliya Kiryanova.
Tomsk Polytechnic University pays much attention to creativity in education of future engineers. It is an integral part in the development of an engineer as all-around personality capable of creating new ideas and putting them into practice.
‘Internet Recognition is a wonderful gift to TPU Media Center for its 10th anniversary. Over these years the students realized their full potential thus covering and initiating many university-wide projects. For TPU their activity presents not only an opportunity to conduct a chronicle of student events, but also to form a new public image of an engineer as a creative and productive person.’
A video of TPU Media Center was short-listed together with 10 clips of similar centers according to the results of the previous two stages.
The main theme of the TPU video is the Year of Ecology in Russia. The authors compare the heroes of Russian fairy tales with ‘heroes’ of the modern time who destroy the environment around themselves. ‘What kind of fairy tales will you tell your children?’ – ask the authors in the specially recorded soundtrack, urging to think and be the change that people want to see.
The voting lasted nine days. The organizing committee awarded two universities – Tomsk Polytechnic University and Plekhanov Russian University of Economics (Moscow) – for the Internet Recognition. The professional jury of the contest will choose the winner in other nominations. The awarding ceremony will take place at the II All-Russian Congress of Youth Media.
This year TPU Media Center will celebrate its 10th anniversary. Over these years, more than 1,000 students keen on the media became the members of the creative association. Plans of the current members include many events and surprises scheduled for this November.
