Life at TPU
School of Earth Sciences & EngineeringThis unit is the oldest with about the 100-year experience in the training of highly qualified engineers in the field of mineral and raw materials industry. Nowadays Tomsk Polytechnic University strives to develop an efficient research and education center, which will be able to conduct breakthrough research projects and provide gifted students and academic staff with all necessary conditions for creative work and study. Along with this activity, the School will train highly qualified academic staff, who can equally efficient work at both research and educational institutions and in petroleum and geology industries, and the ecological sphere. It collaborates with recognized national and international companies in petroleum and petroleum refining industries, like PJSC Gazprom, PJSC Rosneft, PJSC Transneft, PJSC Alrosa, PJSC SIBUR, Schlumberger, and others. In addition, within the framework of the state strategy in the development of the Arctic region, the School actively participates in the study of the underwater permafrost degradation, the emission of methane in the atmosphere in the areas of the Eastern Arctic. |
School of Energy & Power EngineeringThe energy-power industry is the foundation of modern society. The TPU School of Energy & Power Engineering was established in 2017 as an association of power and electric scientific and engineering schools of Siberia with more than a century of history. This allowed both preserving and significantly strengthening the position of Tomsk Polytechnic University as a training center for most of the energy industries throughout the Russian Federation and abroad. The school is a leading research and educational center of Russia in electric and power engineering. Along with the training process, the school research teams develop solutions, ensuring effective and reliable operation of heat and power systems, open and adaptive to new facilities of energy production, and energy consumption. One of the major directions of the university R&D activities is eco-energy, as a response to the global need for environmentally friendly energy production with high efficiency. The school creates new technologies for environmentally friendly energy conversion, increasing the energy efficiency of traditional fuels while reducing technogenic emissions, and developing new fuel formulations. |
School of Nuclear Science & EngineeringThe School of Nuclear Science & Engineering is one of the Russian centers of excellence in the areas of nuclear physics and hydrogen energy. The School students conduct large-scale experiments using the only university nuclear research reactor in Russia. Within the framework of the peaceful atom concept, students of the School can study nuclear medicine, transmutation neutron doping, isotopic design, and thorium energy. Our students participate in academic exchanges and train in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, and other countries, followed by employment in international companies. |

School of Computer Science & RoboticsThe School of Computer Science & Robotics is an intellectually-saturated educational environment, related to designing IT-tech, software, and hardware for development of the digital economy. The School pays close attention to international collaboration and nowadays it established innovation and educational centers jointly with Microsoft, Hughes, SoftLine Academy, and others. It trains highly qualified engineers using world-class Bachelor degree programs, engineering Master degree, PhD programs, and advanced training and short-term education programs. In addition, the School prepares scientific and academic staff, equipped with advanced knowledge and skills allowing them to work at both universities and research centers. Along with educational activity, it conducts national and international research and R&D projects. It is specialized in methods and algorithms for processing big data, intelligent navigation, robotic complexes for studying the resources of the World Ocean, protecting the aquatic environment, and examining the state of underwater objects and engineering structures. As results of these projects, the School regularly presents innovative products, which can be used both for batch production and in individual solutions. |

School of Core Engineering Education
The School main goal is to provide students with basic technical and social-humanitarian competencies. Advanced educational technologies, modern interactive resources, project-based training process, and highly qualified academic staff ensure developing a broad outlook, excellent theoretical basis in fundamental knowledge domains. On the other hand, the School pays close attention to applied skills: teamwork, critical thinking, leadership skills, and ability to solve complex professional problems. The key feature of the School is a complex of basic academic courses for freshmen and sophomore undergraduate students focused on the development of general professional and cultural competencies for future engineers. After the second year, students will be able to make conscious and responsible choice of their further educational track. The School program is a core of successful education at TPU, regardless of academic program. |
